Who Has the Day Off?

Considering the unprecedented transportation challenges that we'll experience on Tuesday, much of the region is taking the day off work. Much of the DoD at Fort Meade is not, however. My colleagues in Virginia are kind of screwed by this. I have taken the day off to guide visiting family around the event, but that's a vacation day for me.

So do you have the day off? Where do you live and work? How is your employer treating the day off? Is it for practical or patriotic reasons? Are you planning to attend the Inauguration? Share your thoughts.

My wife, son and I are all leaving town for the weekend. As exciting an event this is, I would prefer not to feel trapped in my home due to clogged roads and metro.

I get 4 hours of Holiday leave. My office is "inside the beltway", so it is closed, but I'm not going into work. I'm planning to take 4 hours of vacation, keep the kids home from school and have a "learning at home" day with them about the government and inauguration.

My office is closed for the Inauguration, but since I'm a contract employee, I don't get any extra time off. So I'll have to make it up later. Oh well, it'll still be nice to have a 4-day weekend.

I work directly SW of the Capitol; we're required by law to vacate the building since it'll be used as a security center. I'll be at Martins in Georgetown watching the event on their new flat-screens.

I am technically employed by the federal government so since they get a holiday, so do I, even though I work in Rockville.
