Having spent a good deal of my life trapsing around those neighborhoods, I find them to be a little disconnected versus the rest of Silver Spring. I think White Oak/Hillandale will come around if it ever gets transit, but the further out areas need some help.

As for Hyattsville... I KNOW! I don't understand why everyone thinks it's such a bad idea.Davemurphyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07331653772702609738noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1923189313755341259.post-81920780051294326632008-08-21T15:59:00.000-04:002008-08-21T15:59:00.000-04:00"Or as Silver Spring, Singular likes to say, SSINO..."Or as Silver Spring, Singular likes to say, SSINO (Silver Spring in name only)."

You know, Downtown Silver Spring is SSINO so long as we aren't a city yet.

Anyway: I think Outer Silver Spring
is stronger than ever. The revitalization of Downtown combined with the increasing expense of the 270 corridor's making East County a more attractive place to live for families. There are some solid neighborhoods here, among them Stonegate, Springbrook and Good Hope - and new homes as well, some of which are selling for upwards of $1 million.

There are some struggling areas - Briggs Chaney and parts of White Oak, notably - but they're also on the upswing, with the new rec center in White Oak and, of course the FDA moving in. Young people just starting out are flocking to Burtonsville because you can find a house or condo there for well under $500,000.

While you won't find any nightlife in East County, you'll find a nice, quiet place to do the suburban thing, which is the least you can hope for.

As for Hyattsville: what about the Arts District? I assume those little townhouses are selling like hotcakes.Dan Reedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10594208011755406956noreply@blogger.com
